The House of painT 2009 season kicks off
FRIDAY APRIL 24th
w/ LauncH! – An ’09 HoP fundraiser!

House of PainT is back this summer, and to celebrate a three-month countdown to the July main event we’re hosting LauncH 2009 – a huge fundraising bash at Barrymore’s Music Hall on Friday, April 24.

The night will feature a 2on2 BBoy*Bgirl battle (w/prizes from our sponsors), a retrospective of NCR graf pieces and HoP footage on Barrymore’s giant screen, a silent auction and a special live performance on the mic by CROUP – while some of the scene’s dopest DJs keep the party going all night long!

As House of PainT has grown from +/-100 attendees in 2003 to nearly 1000 ppl braving the rain, hail and lightning last year, so have the infrastructure needs and costs for this amazing event. We are reaching out to the Ottawa community on this night to raise some very needed funds for this year’s jam which will be taking place Saturday, JULY 25th.

So join us @ Barrymore’s on April 24th for a killer party in support of this year’s jam.

Ottawa, Wednesday, May 21, 2008 – Only weeks away from Hip Hop 360 and the House of PainT festival! This year House of PainT, in partnership with Hip Hop 360 and the Canada Dance Festival, is proud to present DL Incognito as its feature MC performer. DL Incognito, named for his knack of ‘Delivering Lyrics on the Low’, is a Canadian Hip Hop Producer and Rapper who originally hails from Ottawa. DL’s 2004 album Life’s a Collection of Experiences received a 2005 Juno nomination for Best Rap Recording and his 2006 album Organic Music for a Digital World was nominated for 2007 Juno award in the same category. DL also runs his own record label, Nine Planets of Hip Hop. Montreal’s MC Malicious will open for DL.

House of PainT and Hip Hop 360 are also thrilled to be bringing some of the best Bboy and Bgirl crews from across Canada to the nation’s capital for the festival. The crews will perform choreographed pieces in the Street/Stage showcase taking place on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and will participate in the House of PainT breakdancing battle on June 15, 2008, taking the event to the next level. Invited crews are Filthee Feet from Victoria, F.A.M. from Toronto, Hear and Now Crew from Montreal, and Koala Corp from Halifax. For more information about Street/Stage visit www.canadadance.ca.

The artists will gather at the House of PainT, a legal urban art wall, to dance, rap, spin records, and paint under the Dunbar Bridgewhere Bronson Avenue crosses the Rideau River.

Once again graffiti artists will fill the grey underside of the bridge with colourful urban artwork while DJs fill the air with funk and hip hop, Break Dancers compete for prizes and MCs rock the mic on a stage set up under six lanes of fast-moving traffic heading north and south on Bronson. Members of the HipHop community will share their skills with Ottawa residents through mural painting and breakdancing lessons, as well as a talk on the history of Hip Hop.

Admission to the House of PainT is free and open to all. Expect to find non-vegetarian and vegetarian options at the BBQ and art for sale by participating artists.

So mark Sunday, June 15^th in your calendars and come out and discover what all the excitement is about. See you “Under the Bridge!”

Break Dancers, MCs, DJs and Graffiti Artists bring the Hip Hop community together under one bridge!

Ottawa, Thursday, May 15, 2008 – Only one month to go before the next House of PainT festival and the countdown is on! This year House of PainT will once again partner with Hip Hop 360 and the Canada Dance Festival to bring you their biggest event yet. Artists from across Canada will be keeping it real with an all day event showcasing the four elements of Hip Hop.

On Sunday, June 15, 2008, House of PainT will feature Break Dancers (Bboys and Bgirls), MCs (Rappers), DJs, and Graffiti Artists from Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax and more. The artists will gather at the House of PainT, a legal urban art wall, to dance, rap, spin records, and paint under the Dunbar Bridge, where Bronson Avenue crosses the Rideau River.

“The House of PainT has become a major annual event for the Ottawa Hip Hop community,” says Festival Coordinator Sabra Ripley. “By partnering with Hip Hop 360 and the Canada Dance Festival, we take things to another level; bringing artists from across Canada to see the amazing talent we have here in our city.”

Last year’s festival attracted over 600 participants and more are expected for 2008. The event serves to commemorate the establishment of Ottawa’s first legal Graffiti wall. With the new Graffiti Management Strategy now in effect and Ottawa officials cracking down on Graffiti across the city, it’s more important than ever to maintain a space where urban artists can express themselves legally. The strategy puts legal walls like HoP on a one year probation.
